International Latin

International Latin is a dynamic and rhythm-driven style of ballroom dance known for its bold expression, sharp footwork, and strong body action. Danced primarily in open positions with plenty of hip movement and flair, it includes five dances: Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, and Jive. Each dance has its own unique character, from the playful energy of Cha Cha to the passionate drama of Paso Doble, but all share a focus on rhythm, musicality, and connection between partners.

International Cha-Cha

International Cha Cha is a sharp, playful Latin dance characterized by clean footwork, straight legs, and rhythmic hip action. Developed from the Cuban dance scene and formalized for international competition, it follows a consistent 2-3-4&1 timing, with a crisp cha-cha-cha rhythm. The styling is precise and flirtatious, with a strong emphasis on body control, musicality, and partner interaction.

Samba originated in Brazil and is deeply rooted in the country’s vibrant culture and Carnival traditions. Originally danced in the streets during festivals, Samba has evolved into a lively and rhythmically complex ballroom dance full of bounce, flair, and joy. Its infectious energy and signature bounce action make it a favorite in both social and competitive settings. Modern Samba fits well with many pop songs featuring a strong, driving bass line. Characteristic movements often include a pronounced pelvic tilt and rhythmic body action that give the dance its unmistakable pulse.

International Rumba is the most sensual and controlled of the Latin ballroom dances, often referred to as the “dance of love.” It evolved from its Cuban roots into a slow, elegant, and highly expressive style, showcasing deep connection and emotional storytelling between partners. Danced to a slow tempo with precise, deliberate movements, it emphasizes the delay of weight transfer and strong Cuban Motion. Every step is performed with intention, making even the smallest movement feel dramatic and intimate.

Inspired by the bold, controlled steps of the matadors, this dance focuses on intensity, pride, and the captivating tension between the matador and his opponent. The man takes center stage, embodying the matador, while the woman portrays either the cape or the bull, depending on the narrative of the dance. With its strong, marching rhythm and sharp, purposeful movements, Paso Doble conveys a story of passion, control, and triumph. The dance gained widespread popularity around the 1920s and has since become a staple of competitive ballroom dancing.
